What Does the Lord Require of Thee?
61
Micah 6:8
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Jesus walked the earth, showed us what the meaning of what is good and how to be merciful. The bible has many stories that teach us what a justly living might be like and the benefits thereof. One of my favorite aspects of this verse is "to love mercy.” I think I do love mercy. Every time I see acts of mercy in a movie or in the news, it always makes me cry. Acts of mercy speak louder than 10,000 words, at least I think so anyway.
I remember hearing the following words from a family member a few years ago,” You made your bed, now you sleep in it!" First of all, why would you sleep in a bed that is already made. LOL- (just kidding). I'm sure we have all heard this saying. I'm just so, so glad that God doesn't say that to us when we go to him with our problems. Can you imagine?
Mercy--not getting what you do deserve / withheld punishment
Eph 2:3-5 ...Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

Sky dear sister thank you for a glimpse into Micah. This Book offers several lessons for us.
Yes "by grace you have been saved".
Thanks for this hub.
The fact that you shed a tear over an act of mercy shows great strength. It shows how powerfully the Spirit of God is working in you. I am the same way and I don't apologize for it nor am I ashamed of it. I even shed a tear while watching "Megamind" with my daughter last night as I witnessed his change of heart.
God Himself kisses each of your tears and counts them as precious!
I love that verse! It is so clear and concise, yet so full of meaning and instruction.
"to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God"
Sky,
What wonderful lessons and what wonderful Scripture. Thanks for sharing with us.
I heard a preacher teach on "how to read the Scriptures like a Hebrew". It really opened my eyes to SSOO many things I never saw before.
The reason I mention this would take too long to cover, but the final conclusion he made was we all need to treat people with kindness, mercy, love and grace. It changed me more in one session than probably five years of previous messages. I can actual see a change in my behaviour towards people.
I wish others would see, I mean TRULY see the message contained here. And of course elsewhere, that mercy, grace etc. are taught. Thanks.
Nicely put and well written. Mercy is one of the more endearing qualities and virtues of the the Holy Spirit, and to portray such in our lives humbly, is again a wonderful trait. We should all reflect more often on things like this in our walk with Christ. Be blessed... Rev.Ted
